Before we headed to Wales, I asked on social media if anyone had any tips for places to visit. One suggestion that caught my eye was the waterfalls near Ystradfellte. I did a little research and came across the ‘Four Falls Walk’. There are several variations on this walk and the trail can start and finish at either Cwm Porth (CF44 9JE) or Gwaun Hepste (CF44 9JB) car parks (those postcodes are very approximate, but easy to find off the A4059). Both cost £4 to park all day. If you need to, you can get change for the machine at Cwm Porth, there are also toilets and an information point there. I had originally planned to park at Gwaun Hepste and do the full four waterfall trail, however we needed change so we headed to Cwm Porth. I also thought that we should stick to a shorter walk for Finn’s sake, so we cut the original trail a little.
Here is the route we did, taking in two of the falls, Sgwd Clun-gwyn and Sgwd yr Eira, and covering just under 4 miles.
It was mostly flat, apart from the short, steep walk down to Sgwd yr Eira, and on well marked paths. Once again we were blessed with perfect weather for walking as it was sunny and clear with a cool breeze.
If you go out of the main car park entrance, you will see the path to Sgwd Clun-Gwyn is marked. From then on you can follow the signs as the way to each waterfall is marked, plus on the way back there were clear signs to both car parks. So great weather, easy to navigate and gorgeous scenery. This was pretty much a perfect walk!
Here’s a few photos to illustrate just how lovely it was.
We then followed the track to our second fall.
Here’s a look behind the fall, without having to brave the rocks!
What do you think of our walk? Have you ever walked behind a waterfall?

I’ve always wanted to visit the Four Walls Walk since my first visit to the United Kingdom several years ago! I’m so thrilled you had this experience and seeing your photos reminds me of why I wanted to see this in the first place. It looks incredibly beautiful and your post has inspired me to make sure I see this someday!

I have walked behind a waterfall and I remember getting really wet! I think it was in Wales on a school field trip far too many years ago to remember all the details!

The walk looks lovely, beautiful photographs. I have walked behind a waterfall abroad but that was many years ago. I haven’t explored Wales so one to put on the list. Thanks for joining in with #MyFavouriteTrip Polly x
